“I am a Kenyan born and raised in Nakuru, orphaned at the age of 11 and the first born of four siblings.
At the age of 18 I came to Nairobi to look for employment. After several searches without finding a job, I ended up in one of the Nairobi Markets in Kawangware.
After a long time in that market I was introduced to the art of African beaded sandals and became a shoemaker. This got me a place in the bigger market in the city centre. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit many of us and I hope to contribute to saving lives and earning a living for my family. I started making handmade washable masks and fabrics inspired by my home country for this reason. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them for you.”
